REGISTER YOUR SCHOOL TODAY... HOST A WHITE COATS YOUTH SUMMIT

Established in 2013, White Coats Youth Summits aims to encourage and equip youth (boys & girls) from all backgrounds to pursue careers in medicine. This initiative was founded in response to a AAMC report highlighting the decreasing number of black male applicants to medical school.

White Coats Youth Summits are locally organized events that bring healthcare professionals together for the single purpose of providing our youth with exposure to the medical field. These summits are independently organized by schools and leaders within the community. They educate students, parents, teachers, and community leaders on what it takes to become a medical professional while allowing them to establish and expand their networks.

Meet the Founder

MEET THE FOUNDER

Dr. Dale Okorodudu MD (aka Dr. Dale) is an award winning clinician, best-selling author, and mentor. Among his accolades, he has been named to EBONY's Power 100 List, honored with the Mentoring King Award, and highlighted on Beyonce's website for Black History. After reading a 2013 article published by the Association of American Medical Colleges, Dr. Dale launched Black Men In White Coats with the goal of empowering young Black boys and girls to pursue excellence in medicine and beyond.

Dr. Dale often tells the story of a memorable trip he had while in college. One Friday, he boarded a flight from St. Louis to Chicago for his cousin's wedding. An older, woman took a seat next to him on the airplane. For the duration of that flight, this woman berated Dr. Dale, telling him how poorly he dressed, how dumb he sounded when spoke, and how he would never be successful if he continued to carry himself in the manner which he did. Little did she know that the young black man in a hoodie and sweats was on his way to becoming a medical doctor and that all of her expectations of him would fall short. Since that day, Dr. Dale has sought to inspire and mentor marginalized youth, giving them PERMISSION TO BE GREAT!  “People don’t expect you to be successful,” he tells them, “but I’m expecting the unexpected!”
